What we like about these gloves is that they are fingerless. This leaves you free to adjust the rest of your gear (especially your mask) without the fumbling that comes with thick, full-fingered gloves. They are less warm than fingered gloves, but especially when you are just getting started with freediving and frequently adjusting your gear, the extra dexterity is worth it.
